In its new "Hype Cycle for Digital Banking Transformation", Gartner again features aixigo as a representative provider for the roboadvisor 2.0 technology. But what is Gartner's Hype Cycle about? What's new to this year's Hype Cycle? And what's the state of roboadvisor 2.0 technology? Here are some key facts:

Introduced in 1995, the Gartner Hype Cycle describes the attention paid to new technologies over time and evaluates the extent to which a technology will prevail and how it has matured so far. Following the concept of the Hype Cycle, technologies undergo five phases of attention, beginning with an "innovation trigger" and moving forward until the "plateau of productivity". The "Hype Cycle for Digital Banking Transformation" in specific focuses on "technologies that are deemed truly important and impactful" for the banking industry in the upcoming years. Technologies that are just emerging, such as industry clouds, green and sustainable finance, autoadapting and autocomposing products and the Metaverse – all entirely new to the Hype Cycle – as well as technologies which are already mature, such as roboadvisors 2.0.

As defined by Gartner, roboadvisors 2.0 are collaborative, automated, digital financial tools which use algorithms to perform advanced investment management and financial planning functions. Compared to traditional roboadvisors, they satisfy customer's need for a more "human" offering and use a hybrid approach to digital advice by enabling flexible input from the customer and provider side. Following the Hype Cycle, the technology now reached the "trough of disillusionment" and is in an early mainstream phase. More and more firms "begin rolling out hybrid approaches to digital advice delivery or acquire established fintech players", while "[v]endors continue to commercialize institutional-grade roboadvisor 2.0 tools intended for wealth managers and their clients across multiple channels".

Overall, Gartner predicts high benefits from roboadvising 2.0. It enables significantly higher revenues respectively cost savings for financial businesses by automating and scaling advice, freeing up advisers' time for higher value activities and unlocking additional distribution channels and customer segments. On the client side, it fulfils the need of digital natives searching for hybrid digital experiences that offer a human element. To successfully implement the technology, Gartner sets out specific recommendations for wealth management CIOs. Gartner recommends to market roboadvice solutions to already existing clients to reduce acquisition costs and to build solutions which serve multiple segments and needs. To achieve this, CIOs should determine buy, build or partner approaches to automated digital advice and check with existing traditional tech vendors (Advisor Desktop, Portfolio Management, etc.) as many already offer roboadvisor solution products. In this context, Gartner presents aixigo as a suitable solution provider.
