Interested in upgrading to the latest Moneytree Elite and Essential products but worried about the time it takes to migrate your clients’ data?

If you currently use one of our legacy products, such as Plan, Advise, or TOTAL, we have you covered. You can migrate all your clients at once, and we will work with you to ensure you have access to both products long enough to complete the migration and confirm that all client data transferred over correctly.

If you are coming from another planning product, we also offer integrations to import your clients’ data to Moneytree on-demand.

Moneytree Plan to Moneytree Elite or Essential
Congratulations! When you upgrade from Moneytree Plan to Moneytree Elite, all your client information will be immediately available. There is no need to take any actions to migrate data. Even your custom report sets will transfer automatically.

If you move to Moneytree Essential, we recommend reviewing your settings and defaults. The simpler analysis results in some changes to the available planning defaults and report options.

Moneytree Advise to Moneytree Elite or Essential
Moneytree Elite and Essential include an integration with Moneytree Advise. You simply need to enter your Moneytree Advise login credentials to access all your clients for import.

To access your clients in Moneytree Advise, you must be an admin or have permission to view and edit all clients in Moneytree Advise.

To access and use the Moneytree Advise integration:

  1. Go to the Clients list in Moneytree Elite or Essential
  2. Click the Add Client button near the top and click on Import from Third Party
  3. Select Moneytree Advise as the data source
  4. Enter your Moneytree Advise credentials and click Next
  5. There are a couple different ways to import clients
    – Click on the Import All Clients for Company box at the top and then click Next
    – Left click on a single client or multiple clients and then click Next; a search is available to look up clients by name
  6. Click Finish Import

All the selected clients and their scenarios will be imported into your new Moneytree solution. The import will not bring over your settings, defaults, or custom report sets, so those will need to be set up again.

TOTAL planning suite to Moneytree Elite or Essential
If you are moving to Moneytree Elite or Essential from the desktop application TOTAL Planning Suite, which you may know as Aspire, Prosper, Easy Money, or Golden Years depending on your planning style and how long you have been with us, you can import your client database into the new Moneytree application. A separate file process is available to import your custom report sets.

To import your client database:

  1. Locate your TOTAL Planning Suite database. The file extension is *.vdb4
    – Default location: C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Money Tree Software\TOTAL Planning System
    – If unable to locate the database, open TOTAL to find location the title bar at the very top left of the screen
  2. In Moneytree Elite or Essential and go to the Settings section (top left); if unavailable, click “Back to Clients” in the top left
  3. Click on “TOTAL Data Import” in the Settings section
  4. Click on “Select Database File” in the top right
  5. Navigate to the VDB4 file found in step 1, click on it, then click “Open”
  6. You should get a notification that the import is beginning in the bottom left
  7. If the import is successful, there will be a message that states the import was successful in the progress column

The more clients you have, the longer the import process may take. You are free to work on other tasks in separate tabs, but we recommend keeping the application open and returning periodically to check on the progress. If the import fails for any reason, please reach out to our Support team for assistance.

This import process will bring over both your clients and your defaults. We still recommend reviewing your settings and defaults and making any desired adjustments for the new tool.

To import your custom report sets:

  1. In Moneytree Elite go to Settings > TOTAL Data Import
  2. Click the “Select Custom Reports File” near the bottom-right of the page
  3. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Money Tree Software\Total Planning Suite\
  4. Select the tpsx.mtconfig file, then click Open

After that, the custom report sets from TOTAL will be available in Plan. Note that importing that file will cause any custom report sets you built in Elite or Essential to be lost. The ProgramData folder may be hidden from view. If you need assistance, please reach out to our Support team.

Silver Financial Planner to Moneytree Elite or Essential
Silver Financial Planner saves client data on individual client files with the extension *.sfp. These files can be uploaded individually into Moneytree Elite. Due to how the data is stored for Silver, there is no bulk import for client data.

To import your client files from Silver into Elite or Essential:

  1. Go to the Clients page in Moneytree Elite or Essential
  2. Click Add Client > Import From Third Party
  3. Select Moneytree File as the Data Source
  4. Drag-and-drop the Silver file into the box, or click in the box to navigate through your computer to locate the files
    – Default location: C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Money Tree Software\Silver Financial Planner 4.0\
  5. Finish the Import
  6. Repeat this process for each client until all have been imported

There is no way to import your settings, defaults, or custom reports. This will need to be remodeled.

Coming from another planning software?
Moneytree has several integration options to bring in your client information, such as Redtail CRM, Nitrogen, Wove (aka Albridge or PershingX). These integrations can be used to import client information on-demand.

You can see the full list of integration partners available to advisors when you go to create a client, then select to import from a third party. The Data Source drop-down will show all supported advisor-facing data integrations. You can also find a list of supported data integrations on our website at https://moneytree.com/integrations/.

Moneytree also includes client-facing tools to bring in information. They can link accounts using Account Aggregation through their client portal. Our new data gathering forms, which can be setup in the Client Access section of Settings, allow your clients to link accounts and enter a wide range of financial information.
