The API standard and community for the wealth management industry

The OpenWealth Association’s vision is to define, maintain and operationalize the Open API standard for a global wealth management community

OpenWealth Association is a non-profit, industry-driven community that develops and promotes the global Open API standard for wealth management. Its mission is to connect financial institutions, custodians, WealthTechs, external asset managers (EAMs), family offices, and service providers through standardized, reusable interfaces that replace proprietary point-to-point integrations. By fostering interoperability, OpenWealth aims to reduce onboarding and IT costs, improve data quality, enable real-time connectivity, and accelerate innovation across the wealth management ecosystem.

At the core of the association are three open-source API standards:

  • Custody API – Provides standardized access to portfolio positions, cash balances, transactions, valuations, and other custody-related data. It supports portfolio management, reconciliation, reporting, aggregation, and data-sharing use cases.
  • Trading API – Enables the placement and lifecycle management of investment orders across asset classes, including equities, bonds, funds, FX, digital assets, and OTC products. It covers order submission, status updates, executions, and related cost information.
  • Customer API – Standardizes customer onboarding, KYC processes, customer master data, document exchange, and customer lifecycle management. Its vision is to enable seamless multi-bank onboarding and regulatory compliance through a common industry framework.

Together, these APIs form a common digital language for wealth management, enabling scalable connectivity, ecosystem collaboration, open finance initiatives, and new business models such as embedded wealth, Banking-as-a-Service, and agentic wealth management.
