Owen James was incorporated in the summer of 2005. Its goal was to introduce a new way of doing business. Instead of the traditional hard sell – the transactional approach to events – we wanted to create a platform for strategic engagement.
To discuss issues which were affecting the whole of the industry; to challenge the status quo and seek solutions to enable firms to do better business.
In addition we wanted to create events which provided a vision of the future and which provided inspiration.
Having put together high-end events in the adviser space for seven years, a step into the wealth management space ten in 2006 seemed like a natural one.
The wealth management industry is battling with raising cost income ratios; over-burdoning regulation; changing client expectations; a war on talent; the rise of digital and technology; evolving business models; and geo-political challenges in difficult economic conditions.
Our events are designed to help boards from the largest wealth managers, private banks, discretionary fund managers and family offices work through these challenges; share best practice; and find innovative solutions to drive change forward.
Whilst the industry needs to grapple with challenges that are here on our doorstep such as MiFIDII, GDPR, SMCR, PSD2 and disruptive technology, we want to be more forward thinking and help the industry imagine and prepare for a future in five years time.
