‘Clouded vision – managing the different motivations around cost and complexity’, the sixth and last, panel of the day, was led by Dave Mason, Managing Director at Solve, and facilitated by Farzana Khalil, Director Consultant at Solve. They covered various aspects of managing technology and digital transformation projects, including the challenges of aligning stakeholders and demonstrating benefits.
Indeed, getting stakeholders to buy in for technology projects can be challenging, especially when they are focused solely on cost, rather than broader metrics looking at other areas like productivity, staff retention, and customer outcomes. Outcomes should link to these as well as to the risks, rewards, end goals, and explanations behind a firm’s actions – which also need to be clear and transparent.

Leadership and culture were seen as critical, with the importance of empowering and supporting teams, having a culture of psychological safety, embracing failure, and empowering teams all essential in the change management process. Generational differences in outlook and risk appetite constraints were also discussed. The ability of the younger generation to have a more agile mindset, as opposed to a legacy one, and be able to look at things from a different angle was noted too.

About WealthTech Matters
Owen James and The Wealth Mosaic have collaborated to create a series of triannual events for key decision-makers from the private wealth industry.
Technology is core to the future wealth management model, but in an increasingly specialist technology environment, wealth managers must engage with a deeper knowledge and understanding of what technology is available and can deliver across the three main areas of their business: their clients, their advisers and staff and their business processes.
WealthTech Matters focuses on these three themes to help delegates discover and discuss the technology solutions that will solve the key challenges facing their business.
