For this issue of WealthTech Talks, we caught up with Tomas Petky, Managing Partner of PetakSys, a Europe-based digital transformation agent focused on family offices and wealth management firms. With a strong emphasis on technology enablement, PetakSys bridges the gap for financial institutions that lack the resources of large IT teams but still need robust, future-ready wealth management technology.

In this interview, Petky shared his insights into how technology can empower smaller financial firms to compete with larger players. He also shared views on the opportunities and challenges that digital transformation brings to wealth management.

Could you provide a brief introduction to your business?
PetakSys was founded with a clear purpose: to bring the benefits of digital transformation to small and mid-sized financial institutions that are often underserved when it comes to technology.

Over the years, we have helped wealth managers and family offices modernise their operations by integrating applications and data flows with custodian banks, market price providers, and other financial systems. We have also built tailored software solutions, automated reporting platforms, and client-facing portals. For more than a decade, I have been working closely with firms across Western Europe, helping them operate more efficiently, meet regulatory demands, and deliver a better client experience.

In the wealth management sector, what types of clients do you primarily work with and target?
We primarily serve small to mid-sized financial firms across Western Europe, including private banks, independent wealth managers, family offices and asset management firms. Many of our clients operate without a dedicated in-house IT team, or they have a very small team that struggles to keep up with the growing demands of technology and compliance. These firms want to stay competitive but need a trusted partner to bridge the gap between their business goals and the technology available.

Why do your existing and target clients choose to work with you? What makes your solutions relevant and distinct from your competitors?
Clients choose PetakSys because we combine deep knowledge of the financial industry with practical technology expertise. Unlike large vendors who often push one-size-fits-all solutions, we take the time to understand each firm’s specific challenges and design solutions that fit their unique needs.

Our strengths are in integration, customisation, and automation — we ensure wealth management systems talk to each other seamlessly, and data flows securely and efficiently. This tailored approach allows our clients to focus on serving their own clients, while we ensure their technology backbone is modern, compliant, and scalable.

What is next for your business? Can you share the firm's current focus and future plans, such as product development, market expansion, and strategic goals?
Our current focus is on how we can build smarter, more customised software solutions for our clients. We are investing in developing tailored applications for the wealth management sector that go beyond standard offerings, ensuring they fit seamlessly into each client’s operations and support their unique workflows. Alongside this, we continue to strengthen automation and client reporting capabilities while enhancing digital client platforms that improve transparency and engagement.

Looking ahead, we plan to expand our footprint across Western Europe and deepen our partnerships with custodian banks and market data providers. Our long-term strategic goal is to remain the trusted digital transformation partner for small and mid-sized financial institutions, empowering them with technology that allows them to compete with the largest players in the wealth management industry.

Based on your experience in the wealth management sector, what key opportunities and challenges do you foresee for firms today and in the next three years?
The biggest challenge for many firms will be keeping pace with the rapid evolution of wealth management technology while staying compliant with increasingly complex regulations. At the same time, clients are demanding more personalised and digital-first experiences, which can be difficult for smaller firms to deliver without the right technology in place. The opportunity lies in leveraging automation, data integration, and client platforms to deliver services that feel personal, efficient, and seamless. Firms that embrace digital transformation will not only reduce operational risks and costs but also position themselves to deliver a superior client experience in the years ahead.
