In the WealthTech Talks interview series, we interview senior executives from leading wealth management firms, solution providers, and WealthTech influencers to learn more about them, their journey, their perspectives on the market, and how they see the future of wealth management.

For this issue of WealthTech Talks, we caught up with Rob Flatley, CEO of TS Imagine, a globally distributed, multi-asset SaaS platform serving buy- and sell-side financial institutions with integrated front-to-middle office capabilities. TS Imagine has built its reputation on delivering award-winning trading, portfolio management, and risk technology to some of the world’s most sophisticated investors. Now it is bringing that same institutional-grade infrastructure to the wealth management sector through its WealthSmart platform.

In this interview, Flatley shared his insights into what makes TS Imagine’s approach to wealth management technology distinct – combining a proven institutional infrastructure with the flexibility private banks and wealth managers need today. Flatley also shared his views on the opportunities and pressures reshaping the wealth management technology landscape over the next three years.

Could you provide a brief introduction to your business?
TS Imagine was formed in 2021 through the merger of two pioneering firms – Imagine Software and TradingScreen – each with decades of heritage in capital markets technology. That combination brought together deep expertise in risk management, order and execution management, and multi-asset trading into a single, unified SaaS platform.

Today, TS Imagine serves buy- and sell-side financial institutions globally, providing front-to-middle office capabilities covering execution and order management, portfolio and risk management, and prime brokerage. We have been serving wealth managers and private banks for a number of years through our execution management systems (EMS), order management sysems (OMS), and market data capabilities; in 2023 we formally extended our commitment to this segment with the launch of WealthSmart – a purpose-built web platform designed specifically for private banks and their professional clients.

In the wealth management sector, what types of clients do you primarily work with and target?
Our primary clients in the wealth management space are private banks and their professional clients. These range from regional and cantonal banks across Switzerland and Germany – institutions like Bank Vontobel, Swissquote, Zürcher Kantonalbank, and Graubuendner Kantonalbank – to leading private banks in Luxembourg and global wealth managers operating across booking centers worldwide. We also serve US-based institutions such as Jefferies, who rely on us for outsourced trading and wealth management operations. Geographically, our wealth management footprint is strongest in Switzerland, APAC, Luxembourg, and the United States, and we continue to expand across Western Europe and into the Middle East and Asia.

Why do your existing and target clients choose to work with you? What makes your solutions relevant and distinct from your competitors?
Clients choose TS Imagine because we combine institutional-grade technology with the flexibility and service model that wealth managers need. Our infrastructure is proven – it underpins the front and middle office operations of many of the world’s leading financial institutions, which means our clients benefit from scale, resilience, and continuous investment in innovation. At the same time, our SaaS delivery model means that complexity is managed for them, not by them. For private banks specifically, WealthSmart offers a SaaS platform that can be white-labeled and distributed directly to professional clients – giving relationship managers and end-investors access to consolidated positions, global market data, and direct electronic trading connectivity through a single, modern interface. That combination of institutional capability and wealth management usability is genuinely differentiated in the market.

What's next for your business? Can you share the firm's current focus and future plans, such as product development, market expansion, and strategic goals?
We are continuing to invest in the WealthSmart platform, deepening its multi-asset capabilities and expanding access to liquidity across more markets and instrument types. On the infrastructure side, we are further enhancing our managed data services and global instrument master, which are foundational to everything our clients do – from pricing and analytics to regulatory reporting. We are also focused on geographic expansion, particularly in markets where wealth management digitisation is accelerating and where there is strong demand for institutional-quality technology from regional and private banks. Strategically, we see significant opportunity in helping firms connect their front-office capabilities more seamlessly to their middle and back offices – reducing operational complexity and enabling better real-time decision-making for their clients.

Based on your experience in the wealth management sector, what key opportunities and challenges do you foresee for firms today and in the next three years?
The biggest opportunity is modernisation. A significant proportion of wealth managers are still operating on fragmented, legacy technology stacks – and investor expectations have moved well beyond what those systems can deliver. Clients expect slick digital interfaces, on-demand analytics, and multi-asset access as a baseline. Firms that invest in the right technology now will be better positioned to grow their assets under management (AUM), retain talent, and compete with the new generation of digital wealth managers entering the market.

The challenge is the pace of change and the complexity of integrating new capabilities with existing infrastructure. Many firms are locked into older core banking and OMS platforms that constrain their ability to innovate quickly. Choosing technology partners with robust integration frameworks – open APIs, established certifications with core banking providers, and a broad network of brokers and market data vendors – is critical to managing that transition without disruption. Over the next three years, we expect to see continued consolidation in the WealthTech vendor landscape, and firms that make smart technology choices now will be far better placed to capture the growth ahead.
