The countdown to the FCA’s Consumer Composite Investments (CCI) regime is already changing the conversation around product information.
For firms serving UK retail investors, the task is not simply to replace PRIIPs KIDs and UCITS KIIDs. The FCA has removed the prescribed disclosure template, leaving firms with a more fundamental question: how do you create product information that people can actually understand and engage with?
That is the question at the heart of Shaping the environment: Behavioural science, engagement, and Consumer Composite Investments, a WealthTech Talks webinar from The Wealth Mosaic and Communify taking place on 10 September at 11:00am BST.
The 45-minute session will bring together Stephen Wall, Founder of The Wealth Mosaic, and Sam Shuff, Head of Product EMEA at Communify, for a practical discussion about CCI, behavioural science, product data, and the digital experiences that can be built around product information.
Why this conversation, and why now?
The Wealth Mosaic has been hearing the same questions from UK firms repeatedly in recent weeks. Rather than wait for a conventional webinar cycle, we have brought the conversation forward with a popup session focused on the issues firms are already working through.
The timing is useful because CCI is not simply a regulatory exercise. Removing the template gives firms more scope to think about how investors encounter, understand, and use product information – but it also puts greater emphasis on the design of that experience.
The webinar will look at why that matters, and what behavioural science can tell us about creating information that works.
What makes people understand?
The session will go beyond the fundamentals of CCI to examine four dynamics behind effective engagement: design, engagement, decision theory, and data science.
It will explore behavioural principles including anchoring, information overload, and prospect theory, and consider why simply providing more information does not necessarily lead to better comprehension or decision-making.
The discussion will also look at evidence from FCA research showing how redesign can improve comprehension, including the role played by elements such as colour coding, icons, whole numbers, and clear section headings.
The implication is important: comprehension is not simply a matter of taste or presentation. It can be designed, tested, and improved.
What sits underneath the experience?
Better design still needs a reliable foundation.
For manufacturers – including asset managers, fund groups, structured product issuers and insurers – the challenge includes producing product summaries at scale from controlled, machine-readable data.
The webinar will explore the idea of a single Knowledge Base providing the foundation for both disclosure and digital experiences, with controlled and verified data, approval, versioning, and a full audit trail.
For distributors, meanwhile, the product summary itself remains controlled. But the experience around it can be designed to improve comprehension and engagement – including explanations, interactive experiences, search, comparison and intelligent research.
CCI does not have to mean starting from scratch
One of the key questions the webinar will address is how much firms actually need to build themselves.
The discussion will consider what happens when product information stops being treated simply as a PDF and becomes a controlled foundation for compliance, governance, distribution, understanding, engagement, and discovery.
There are already examples in production. Communify's experience includes a single pipeline generating more than 44,000 investor reports per quarter – combining document and digital experiences with approvals, embedded disclosures and archival.
The aim is therefore not to present CCI as a blank-sheet technology project, but to explore which components already exist and how firms can use them.
So what should firms do now?
The webinar will finish with a practical question: if CCI is on your desk, what should you be doing on Monday?
The proposed approach is built around three workstreams, in sequence: the data layer, design, and testing whether people actually understood what they were shown. The message is that firms should not leave testing until the end; the foundations need to start now.
For firms currently considering their CCI approach, this offers an opportunity to step beyond the question of how to produce the required disclosure and consider the bigger opportunity: how can product information become something investors understand, explore, compare, and engage with?
